Inflammation and Salt-inducible Kinases in heart failure Study

Inflammation and Salt-inducible Kinases in heart failure Study

Researchers in Tayside are looking for adults with heart failure who would be willing to take part in a study looking at the relationship between the amount of inflammation in the body and heart disease.

Evidence from other studies has linked heart failure with inflammation, but researchers need to examine this more fully. Inflammation is controlled by many different proteins, and the researchers are interested in one specific type, called kinases. This study will look at the level of kinases in the blood to see how it links to the symptoms of heart failure.

People who get involved with the study would need to travel to Ninewells hospital, where they would meet the study doctor for a blood test, a heart scan with an ultrasound machine and a questionnaire about day-to-day life with heart failure. Some people would be asked to come back for another blood test in 6 months, depending on the level of inflammation that the first blood test shows.
