Researchers in Tayside are investigating a new drug for weight loss. The drug tirzepatide has been shown to help people diagnosed with diabetes lose weight in a previous study.

Now the researchers want to test the drug in a group of people who are overweight and have had a heart attack or stroke.

As it is a clinical trial, half of the study participants will be randomised to receive the study drug. The other half will receive a placebo. Both groups will get diet and exercise counselling, so all participants could benefit from taking part.

The researchers are looking for people who are willing to come to Ninewells hospital once a month, for the first 6 months of the study. Visits will then decrease to once every 3 months. The study will last around 5 years and travel expenses will be reimbursed.
