Researchers in Tayside are aiming to understand the relationship between the bacteria in our lungs and our lung health over time.

Previous research has shown that there are lots of different types of bacteria, and some types have been linked to more serious effects on our health than others. This study will compare the lung bacteria of healthy people to those who suffer from respiratory conditions.

So who can take part?

We need healthy people and people who have had a diagnosis of asthma or COPD to participate.

The study involves one visit to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, to talk to the study doctor about your general health, complete a health questionnaire and have your height, weight and oxygen levels taken. You will also be asked to donate a sample of blood, urine and saliva. If you have a chest condition, you will be asked to donate a sample of phlegm, at the same appointment.

Travel expenses will be paid and the whole visit is expected to last about 1 hour.  There is no need to make changes to any medication you normally take.

If you would like to take part in this study, please get in touch with the SHARE Studies Team by telephone on 01382 383235 or email at [email protected] and we can tell you more about the study.
