Researchers from the University of Edinburgh are conducting a study called AMBIENT BD. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of sleep patterns on patients experience of bipolar disorder.
Based on previous studies it is known that sleep disturbances are common among people with bipolar. These disturbances may contribute to the onset of mood episodes. This study uses innovative technological devices for data collection to allow improved monitoring of sleep patterns and allows better insights into the reasons for relapse.
Participation lasts around 18 months and involves an initial screening appointment completed remotely, followed by an in-person baseline appointment at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh lasting 1.5-2 hrs. There will be 3 further online appointments at 6, 12 and 18 months. You will be asked to use devices at different times during the study, such as a bedside sensor, activity monitoring watch and a smartphone app.
For attending these appointments you will be reimbursed for your time.
