Researchers are looking for volunteers for a study which is testing a new drug for the prevention of Flu.
People who have long term health problems, or weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious complications from flu. The flu vaccine is not always effective at providing protection for higher risk patients and there is a need for a medicine that can protect people -especially those at higher risk- throughout the flu season.
This new medicine contains a mix of zanamivir, a medicine already used for treating and preventing flu and human immunoglobulin antibody which is a protein that fights off infections.
The drug is administered by injection and participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the study drug or placebo.
Participation will last 6 and a half months and during this time there may be up to 5 in-person visits spread over that time. There will also be some follow up well-being phone calls and you will be asked to complete some questionnaires.
If you would like to take part in this study, please get in touch with the SHARE Studies Team by telephone on 01382 383235 or email at [email protected] and we can tell you more about the study.
