Researchers from NHS Tayside are looking for volunteers to help with a study called MIDAS-HEART. The aim is to better understand how the function of small blood vessels affects the function of the heart. It is hoped this research may help towards potentially developing much needed treatments to improve patients lives and prevent heart muscle damage.
They are looking for people who have diabetes (type 1 or 2) or heart failure (or have changes in a heart scan) or have high blood pressure. They are also including some people without any of these conditions.
If you decide to take part you will be invited to the Clinical Research Centre at Ninewells Hospital. You can come either on 1 occasion or 2 occasions within 2 weeks.
At the visit the study team will ask about your medical history, carry out a brief general medical examination and you will complete some questionnaires, provide a blood sample and urine sample have an ECG heart tracing, ultrasound of your heart (echocardiogram)and MRI scan of your heart (the MRI visit lasts about 1.5 hour). Researchers will also take a photograph of the back of your eyes and do a non-invasive Skin Blood Vessel Test.
