Researchers hope to better understand how changes measured in blood vessels are related to things like risk of heart disease or other cardiovascular conditions, and this may help to improve how such conditions are monitored and assessed.

This study is being done by researchers at Ninewells Hospital Medical School. It aims to investigate how changes in blood vessels throughout the body are linked to peripheral artery disease in people with diabetes.

Participation involves one visit to Ninewells Hospital, at the Clinical Research Centre. After a brief questionnaire, the researchers will carry out some tests relating to your blood vessels. These include taking a blood sample, photo-imaging of the back of your eyes, ultrasound scans of your eyelids and arteries in your neck, measuring the “stiffness” of arteries between your neck and thigh, measuring blood pressure in your arms and ankles, and a laser scan of blood flow in your forearm.

The visit is expected to last no more than three hours, and travel expenses will be paid as necessary.
