In the CONNECT study, researchers at University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow are building on previous research, to see how changes in behaviours and patterns might relate to someone’s mental health getting worse. In the future, it might be possible to tell in advance when someone’s mental health might be getting worse by looking at these changes and to offer extra support at the time it is needed. They are investigating the use of smart devices to predict potential relapses of psychosis.
This study is looking for people who have had episodes of psychosis within the last two years and receive or have received treatment for psychosis. Participation would involve using a wearable smart device such as a Fitbit or Apple Watch and a smartphone, alongside a downloadable app; devices can be provided if not owned by participants. Participants will answer questions weekly about their mood and any symptoms they are experiencing over a 12-month period and complete a more in-depth questionnaire every 4 months over the same period.
