A collaborative event between SHARE and the Tayside Clinical Trials Unit.
Every 20th May, Clinical Trials Day is celebrated worldwide to commemorate what is considered to be the world's first clinical trial, conducted by British Royal Navy surgeon James Lind in 1747.
This year SHARE and the Tayside Clinical Trials Unit (TCTU) joined forces to mark Clinical Trials Day with a presentation session at Ninewells Hospital. The keynote speaker was Professor John F. Dillon, with additional presentations from SHARE and Dr Sarah Inglis, TCTU Senior Clinical Trial Manager.
John is Chair of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at the University of Dundee's School of Medicine, and specialises in liver disease. In his presentation titled "Clinical Trials and the Path to Hepatitis C Elimination", John talked about some of the groundbreaking work he and his team have been doing to reduce the prevalence of Hepatitis C in Tayside, as well as how this work has been extended as far afield as Australia and Ethiopia.
Clinical trials are just one way that you can get involved in health research. If you haven't already, please consider signing up for SHARE.
